The web browser vendor are present and past competitions to make their browser dominance and popular in the web browser market. Although Microsoft Internet Explorer currently is the first popular web browser on Microsoft Windows but the presence of alternative browsers have successfully reduced the market share of Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Microsoft had advantage in the browser wars, Microsoft Windows had over 90% share of the operating system market and Microsoft Internet Explorer was bundled with every copy of Windows. So, Microsoft was able dominate the web browser market share easily as customer had Microsoft Internet Explorer as a default browser. Microsoft also locked up a large portion of the Macintosh browser market in 1997 as part of its agreement with Apple that year to make Internet Explorer for Mac the default browser on the Mac for five years.

Opera Software ASA, vendor of Opera web browser, although it currently only has a small desktop usage share. Opera was become most popular alternative browser on Microsoft Windows. Opera known for innovative features such tabbed browsing and mouse gesture, as well ass being lightweight but feature rich.

Mozilla Foundation released Mozilla Firefox, included the ability to reopen recently closed tabs, a session restore feature to resume work where it had been left after crash, a phishing filter and a spell checker for text fields. Others Mozilla Firefox features, it has a lot of add on donated by most programmer in the world, making it the most favorite browser for web developer.

Apple had begun work on a new browser to replace the discontinued Internet Explorer for Mac. Basing the rendering engine on the open-source KHTML rendering engine from the Konqueror project, Apple created the WebKit project and a browser named Safari, which shipped with Mac OS X v10.3 later that year. Google released an open source browser called Chrome for Microsoft Windows on December 11, 2008, using the same WebKit rendering engine as Safari and claiming a faster JavaScript engine. In the benchmark of web browser, Chrome occupy the second position after Safari v4.00.
